League Overview
- Do not request that your team cannot play games. If you have, to it will result in 2 games in 1 day.
- When the schedule is published we will do our best to follow the schedule.
- We will make up all cancelled games. ( Bad weather, Gym problems, Etc. )
- If your team forfeits a game there will be a $40.00 forfeit fee.
- We cannot schedule around other activities and sports. All teams will play 1 to 2 games a week.
- The intent of the 2nd and 3rd Grade Rules Modification is to give the players a chance to learn the game of basketball the correct way. No bunching of the basketball by the players.
- Offense moves the ball up court and the defense has the opportunity to get set.
- Every player from each team is encouraged to be a part of the offensive set. Hopefully each player will get the chance to touch the bal and score if possible.
- Man to Man Defense only.
- No back court defense except for the last 5 minutes of the second half
- No zone defense, only man to man
- Players must remain within 4 to 6 feet of the player they are guarding. If the player is outside the 3 point arc this rule does not apply.
- Switching is permitted.
- Doubling teaming with only 2 players
- Teaching Help side Defense is encouraged.
- To the maximum extent possible, offensive play shall include all 5 players being actively engaged in the play. Players should move through the 3-point area as often as possible to be a participant in the offense. This rule does not require that every offensive player touch the ball, but each player will get more enjoyment from the game if he/she is setting screens, cutting to the basket, and/or positioning for the offensive rebound, etc.
- No 4 corners Offense
- Sharing the ball should be emphasized.
- Additional basketball rules will apply.
A. Definitions:
- Double Teaming: 2 players guarding the he offensive player with the ball
- Zone Defense: Zone defense is players who are responsible to guard an area at their defensive end of the Court
- Ball-Man Relationship: Seeing the ball and man simultaneously.
B. Penalties:
- For the first violation of offensive or defensive rules, a warning shall be issued to the coach of the violating team. The second violation is a team technical foul with one shot being awarded to the other team and possession of the basketball. If the official has determined the coach is deliberately violating the rules, the technical foul shall be assessed against the coach.
Player Participation:
Players must be on the bench by tip off. If a player shows up after the half they will not be allowed to play. Players arriving late, but prior to intermission will be considered eligible to play. The player must sit 5 minutes and play at least 10 minutes. If Coach has 8 players at the beginning of the game, he plays 8-man rules throughout the game. The 8 players present at the beginning of the game would be required to get at least 20 minutes of play time. If the 9th player arrives before the second half, the coach has to play him or her a minimum 10 minutes and sits at least 5 minutes in the second half
Playing Time:
Each team must begin a game with all their registered players that have signed up to play for that team. If a player is absent you must put the name of the player on the back of the score sheet. If a player misses to many games they may be replaced or removed from the team.
Ten or nine players will play:
Maximum playing time – 30-35 minutes
Minimum playing time – 15-20 minutes
Eight players will play:
Maximum playing time – 30-35 minutes
Minimum playing time – 15-20 minutes
Seven players will play:
Maximum playing time – 30-35 minutes
Minimum playing time – 20-25 minutes
Six players will play:
Maximum playing time – 30-35 minutes
Minimum playing time – 25-30 minutes
In the event that there five registered players present, first time occurrence, all the players will be allowed to play the entire game. Second time occurrence, written explanation on the score sheet to be reviewed for possible forfeit.
Each quarter will be divided into two five-minute segments. The two segments in a quarter will be separated by an official time-out, which can be used for substitution only. When the substitution horn is blown, only the players at the score table will be placed in the game.
Substitution Rule: During a five-minute segment any player may be substituted for only after he/she has played his/her required segments and only if he/she has been out of the game for one complete segment and all players have played their minimum required play time.
If a player has not completed their minimum number of segments and they receive their fourth personal foul, the coach may substitute for that player. However, the player must check back into the game at the next available segment and complete their minimum playing time unless the player fouls out.
In case of an injury, the allowed five-minute segment time will be credited to the injured player. The player who is substituted for the injured player must still sit out their allotted five-minute segment.
In the event a coach wishes to substitute for a player who has not completed their minimum and requires discipline, time to cool off, etc., the coach must notify the officials prior to the substitution. Additionally, the coach must notify the league if the player did not complete the minimum playing time and provide a description of the events that led to the discipline. Players disciplined, the player’s parents and the head coach will be required to meet with the league within four days to discuss the situation.
The official scorekeeper keeps the official game score. The head official shall be responsible for the score sheet. The score may be adjusted if incorrect before the second live ball. (Correctable error situations as per high school federation rules.) Gym monitor shall collect the score sheets at the end of each game and turn them into the league president.
- Overall, won loss record if equal number of games played (snow days, cancellations, etc.). If still tied, head-to-head competition.
- If still tied, results vs. higher seeds until tie is broken.
- If still tied, results vs. lower seeds until tie is broken. e. If still tied, Coin Flip.
- In the event of a team moving up or down if permitted, or an uneven number of scheduled games, the Director shall have the authority to seed the tournaments as an independent unbiased neutral official.
Note: Point differential will not be used for good sportsmanship and maximum participation during the regular season. Games will only be changed for school cancellations.
- No schedule requests can be honored for the end of year tournaments.
- League cannot not schedule tournaments around start of spring sports or accommodate special requests.
- Schedule changes will be made only due to weather or school cancellations.
- 8 Grady’s Performance Center is the showcase venue for the championship games if possible.
- These rules apply to the entire 8 Grady’s facility.
- No food or drink is allowed in the gym.
- The players may have a sports drink or water on the bench.
- Throw trash in the trash can.
- Snacks can be handed out to the players outside the gymnasium.
- Coaches please clean the bench area after the game
- If you have the last game of the day please help with putting the chairs and table away.
